23 dec 2007 The Engine
The engine is cleaned up. Ain't she a beauty! The supercharger has been cleaned up as well. I'm still planning on fitting it to the car! |

10-feb-2007 Brake lines
We've started fitting the brake lines. The front brake lines are 4" too long (we're hoping this isn't a problem later). Unfortunately, the rear flex brake lines are not there. The brake line from front to back is waaay to short. It's only 2m and it should be 2.6m to be working comfortably (that's about 2 feet to short!). The brake line is obviously for a RHD car with pedal box on the floor. Our LHD car with pedal box on top needs a much longer brake line. We had one fabricated locally. |

18-feb-2007 Fuel lines / rear suspension
The fuel lines were not easy to install. We didn't have a special tool to bend the lines, so we had to bend them around various round tools. We had to be very careful not to kink them. Took us a couple of hours to bend them. |

23 feb 2007 wiring and rear suspension
We partly installed the front and rear suspension today. Since one of the rear diff mounts doesn't fit, we couldn't install the diff yet. The front suspension went in very easy. Next week, the wheel hubs will go in (they are still on the donor ...). We thought that we were missing the headlight mounts, but since we have the one piece nose, the mounts are different. Mystery part solved :) We did start on the rear wiring loom though. This was fun (really, it was). |

20 nov 2006 The Donor!
Here's our donor! It's a 1991 1.6 MX5. Other than the left front damage, the car is in pretty good shape. The engine has good compression and doesn't seem to burn any oil. This look goods. Let the works begin, where's my hammer! |

15-dec-2006 Engine removal
Patrick started removing the engine today. Althoug the car looks pretty banged up, the damage is limited to the front left steering knuckle. Other than that, all parts are salvagable. Notice the tiny 1.6 differential! We definitely won't be using that! As a comparison, the last picture shows a 1.6 and 1.8 differential. Notice the difference in size! The 1.6 has a 6" ring gear with 4.30:1 ratio, where the 1.8 has a 7" ring gear with 4.10:1 ratio. The 1.8 driveshaft is 48mm shorter and has a larger flange pattern (67mm versus 62mm) so we'll be using a 1.8 driveshaft as well. |

16-dec-2006 Dashboard removal
Today, the dashboard was removed, as was everything under the hood. Fun stuff, after removing the dash, Patrick had pain in muscles he didn't even know he had :) ! |

08-jan-2007 The supercharger !
This is my supercharger that now still is in my MX-5. It will be transplanted into the Westfield together with the intercooler. Some things will have to be changed because as it is right now it will not fit inside the Westfield engine bay ! |
